Paying the rent
The tenancy agreement contains provisions on paying rent. Rent is to be paid on the second working day of every month. The due date set out in the tenancy agreement may not be changed. The reference number shown on the rent payment form is to be stated when paying rent.
Penalty interest is charged on late rent payments in line with the Interest Act. Continued failure to pay rent will lead to the cancellation of the tenancy agreement and to eviction.
If you are in financial difficulties and are unable to pay your rent on time, please contact VAV’s rent monitoring. Our tenant counselors are also available to help you find a solution to problems related to your tenancy. Tenants should also check their rights to KELA’s housing allowance and opportunity to obtain social assistance from the municipality.
Any payments for use of the sauna and car parking should be paid with the rent. If these additional payments are not included on the payment form, the tenant should add them him or herself. The monthly service charge can be obtained from the maintenance company when making bookings. The maintenance company will notify the rent monitoring office of new bookings and changes to bookings and these will be added to the next rent payment form.
The amount of rent is examined every year. Any rent increases will be notified in writing at least two months before the new rent enters into force.
