Ensuring that the property is a comfortable and pleasant place in which to live largely depends on how well the building\u2019s communal spaces and outside areas are looked after. The first impression of a residential area, a building and its residents is formed from these areas adjoining your apartment.<\/p>\n
Stairwells and elevators are the most used common spaces of an apartment building. However, they are not suitable places to meet or play. For fire safety reasons, belongings may only be stored in areas reserved for the purpose. The stairwell, for example, is not the place to store prams or any other objects.<\/p>\n
The outside doors of the stairwell usually have electric locks, which lock at night. After this, anyone using the door should make sure that it is locked behind them.<\/p>\n
Separate storage space is provided in apartment buildings for outdoor equipment such as bicycles and skis. Many buildings also have storage space for prams. These storage areas are not a playground. Everyone is responsible for ensuring that the doors are kept locked. Each apartment has a separate storage space which tenants are responsible for locking themselves. No petrol canisters, gas or other flammable materials may be kept indoors.<\/p>\n
The Tobacco Act and the rules and regulations for the building prohibit smoking in all the communal and public areas of the property, including the elevators. Smoking is also prohibited inside the apartments, as stated in VAV’s rental agreements. The cost of repairing damage caused by smoking in contravention of this ban will be charged from the tenant.<\/p>\n
Starting from the spring of 2017, all newly built VAV houses are completely smoke-free. This means that smoking in these houses is prohibited on the balconies and on the building yard as well as inside the house. The smoking ban is included in the rental agreement.<\/p>\n
