Disturbances in housing

When living in a terraced house or apartment building, you may sometimes hear noises from your neighbours through the walls or other structures. Normal living noises are part of life, but you do not have to tolerate unreasonable noise or other disturbances. At VAV, quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Read VAV’s rules and regulations

Normal living noises include:

  • sounds caused by normal movement
  • using the shower and toilet
  • sounds caused by children playing

Please note that your neighbour may not be aware of the disturbance they are causing, so a friendly conversation is often the best option.

We have also developed friendly notes for various types of disturbances. Feel free to use them. You can also write your own informal message to your neighbour.

Note or warning

If the disturbance is recurring, occurs at night, or a friendly conversation does not help, fill in the notification of disturbing behavior and send it to us, for example, via the OmaVAV service.

We need detailed information about the incident:

  • Who caused the disturbance
  • When did the disturbance occur
  • How did the disturbance occur

In order for us to intervene in the disturbance, for example with a note or warning, we need a report signed by at least two neighbours.

If the disturbance has been threatening or otherwise dangerous, call the police: 112.
