174 new rental homes in Vantaa – VAV’s new developments completed in Myyrmäki and Asola

Two new rental buildings constructed by VAV have been completed in Vantaa, offering a total of 174 modern and affordable homes to the residents of Vantaa. These comfortable residential buildings are located in central locations in Myyrmäki and Asola.

VAV’s new residential buildings on Myyrmäentie and Lipstikkakuja meet the diverse housing needs of Vantaa residents. There is a great need for affordable rental apartments in Vantaa, and the new residential buildings received an exceptionally high number of applications. Almost 800 applications were sent for the Myyrmäki residential building and around 650 for Asola. All apartments were rented out before completion.

According to Mirka Saarholma, CEO of VAV, the construction of new affordable rental homes is a key part of the company’s responsibility as a provider of housing in Vantaa.

“Affordable rental apartments are needed so that even those on low incomes can afford to build a good and sustainable everyday life in Vantaa – one where housing does not take up too large a share of the available income,” she says.

Subsidized housing also combats segregation and strengthens social sustainability.

“It is essential for the vitality of Vantaa that even low-wage workers can afford to settle in our city,” Saarholma continues.

Modern living in prime locations

The 17-story rental building completed on Myyrmäentie is VAV’s tallest and largest to date. The building stands out as a sturdy landmark in the Myyrmäki streetscape, and the balconies on the top floors offer views of up to 20 kilometres. Its location right in the centre of Myyrmäki puts public transport connections and services within walking distance.

VAV’s fifth Swan-labeled rental building was completed on Lipstikkakuja in Asola. The building represents environmentally responsible construction and offers a comfortable living environment close to services and nature. The new Elmo sports center with its swimming pool is also located nearby.

Both properties are A-rated for energy efficiency and offer a wide range of apartments, from studios to two-bedroom units. The floor plans are bright and practical, and the buildings also feature shared sauna facilities, laundry rooms, and club rooms for socializing.

“Our goal is to build homes that support the needs of Vantaa residents at different stages of their lives,” says Saarholma.

The new developments are part of the City of Vantaa’s goal for VAV to build 350 state-subsidized and 50–100 privately financed apartments each year. Forecasts indicate that the demand for housing in Vantaa will remain high in the coming years.

“Although the target is ambitious, it is necessary. We want to be involved in building Vantaa into a vibrant, equal, and sustainable city,” Saarholma concludes.
