Live safely: check your smoke detector regularly
11.02.2026News
Today, on February 11th, is 112 Day, also known as Emergency Number Day. So now is a good time to check that the smoke alarms in your home are working.
Here’s how to test your smoke alarm:
- Press the smoke alarm button for a couple of seconds.
- When the alarm beeps, you can release the button.
- The device is working properly if you hear a beeping sound.
Since the beginning of the year, the landlord takes care of the smoke alarms in all VAV Group apartments. If you notice a malfunction in your alarm, report it to customer service.
When should you call the emergency number?
Remember that the emergency number is not intended for non-urgent disturbances. Call the emergency number 112 when you need authorities to come to your building or home quickly. An emergency is a situation where life, health, property, or the environment is threatened or in danger.
Take care of your smoke detector
- Test the smoke detector regularly, at least once a month. This ensures that the device works correctly in an emergency.
- Smoke detectors must be kept clean. Vacuum the detector regularly and follow the maintenance and cleaning instructions provided with the smoke detector.
- Report immediately to VAV customer service if there is a defect in a smoke detector installed by VAV.
- Installed smoke detectors must not be moved or removed.
