40 years of comfortable rental living in Vantaa

For four decades, we have been a key player in developing residential environments in the city of Vantaa and providing affordable rental apartments.

Our operations began in the mid-1980s, when the City of Vantaa’s rental housing stock was consolidated into a single company. This was done in order to enable the long-term development and management of the company. Initially, we managed just over 40 properties with around 2,200 apartments.

We have grown rapidly over the past 40 years. Today, we have almost 12,000 apartments, and nearly one in ten residents of Vantaa live in our homes.

From the outset, our mission has been to respond to the city’s growing housing needs by providing affordable and diverse homes for the residents of Vantaa. Over the years, housing and residential construction have changed dramatically, for example, due to urbanization and digitalization.

“Close cooperation with the City of Vantaa and stakeholders has enabled us to develop housing solutions that consistently and genuinely meet the needs of city residents,” says Mirka Saarholma, CEO of VAV.

Vantaa – a city offering a high quality of life

The City of Vantaa aims to promote a good and high quality of life in Vantaa. We support the city’s strategy by planning sustainable and functional residential environments and providing housing that is affordable for as many Vantaa residents as possible.

We have a diverse housing stock, and the good locations of our residential buildings serve people in different life situations. People live comfortably with us, whether they live alone, with their families, or are retired.

We are constantly developing our operations to be more resident-oriented, and our focus on customer service has been reflected in improved resident satisfaction year after year. This satisfaction is also reflected in long-term tenancies: on average, people live in VAV apartments for eight to nine years, but there are also a large number of residents who have enjoyed living in our homes as tenants for decades.

Looking to the future

Future themes in housing include changes in household size, the needs of an aging population, and the densification of urban structures. These developments are also guiding the planning of housing and services.

We can expect changes in the near future. In the spring, the OmaVAV digital service for residents will be completely updated. Our goal with the update has been to make the service even clearer and smoother. Our key housing services, such as fault reports, maintenance requests, and announcements, will now be available in one place, in a mobile-friendly format.

Our website, vav.fi, will be revamped in the fall. The revamp will enable us to better support our customers in their search for housing. The improved website will also help our existing residents find the right information more easily.

There are also developments on the housing front. Our renovated residential building on Mäyräkuja in Korso will be completed in the summer, and a new senior center will be built in Tikkurila in early 2027.

“We have several new projects under development in different parts of Vantaa. We aim to launch several new projects this year as well. Our determined work to provide high-quality and affordable housing in Vantaa will continue strongly in the coming years,” says CEO Mirka Saarholma.
