We can help you find a home to suit different stages of life. VAV offers two types of rental homes in Vantaa:
The majority of VAV’s rental homes are state-subsidised. They are intended for people who need an affordable home. They often also have an urgent need for housing. There are income and asset limits for state-subsidised housing.
VAV also has standard, privately funded rental flats in various parts of Vantaa. These are rental flats open to everyone. There are no income or asset limits for these flats.

You can apply for a rental home with us if you are aged 18 or over, have a Finnish personal identity number and have a valid email address.

At VAV, the allocation of housing is based on housing need. We are therefore unable to specify the average waiting time for a rental home.

Your application is valid for four months, so remember to renew it if necessary. You can also amend your application if your circumstances change.

If you receive a housing offer from us, please let us know by the deadline whether you wish to accept the offered property. Submit the required attachments and sign the tenancy agreement.

You can apply for a VAV rental home if
You can apply for a rental home from us in various life situations: whether you are in employment, self-employed, unemployed, retired or a student. We also welcome pets as members of the family.
To be eligible for a rental home built with state funding, you must have an urgent need for accommodation. An urgent need for accommodation may arise, for example, from a new job in another town, the termination of your current tenancy, the arrival of a new family member or some other life change.
Furthermore, the income or assets of applicants for state-subsidised rental homes must not exceed the specified limits. If you are applying for VAV’s privately financed rental homes, there are no income or asset limits. Before making a housing offer, we also check the credit history of all applicants aged 18 or over.
Once you have submitted your application for a rental home, you will receive a notification confirming that your application has been received. Please then wait for us to contact you. Most of our apartments are state-subsidised rental flats, which means that when selecting tenants, we follow Varke’s guidelines. Allocation of these apartments is based on housing need, not on a first-come, first-served basis. It is therefore difficult to determine the average waiting time for a rental home.
If your circumstances change, you can edit your housing application.
Remember to renew your application if necessary, as it remains valid for four months from the date of submission. You can renew your application via the ‘edit your application’ button.
If you forget to renew your application but still need a rental flat, you can always submit a new housing application to us. If you no longer require accommodation, please notify VAV’s customer service.
Before making a housing offer, we will check your population register details. The address on your application must match the one in your population register. Otherwise, we will consider that your need for accommodation is no longer current. So please remember to update your application if your address details change.
We will contact you if we can offer you an apartment. When making an apartment offer, we will ask you to provide the necessary attachments, which we will check. You will be able to view the apartment before signing the tenancy agreement. The apartment will be shown to you either by the previous tenant or a VAV representative. You will receive this information in the property offer. Please let us know whether you accept the apartment by the deadline stated in the offer.
We will draw up the tenancy agreement once the housing offer has been accepted and the information provided has been verified. The agreement is signed electronically. If you are unable to sign the agreement electronically, you can sign it at a VAV office by booking an appointment with us. You will find details on how to sign the agreement and book an appointment in the confirmed apartment offer.
If your spouse or another tenant is applying for an apartment with you, they must also verify their identity and sign the tenancy agreement. The agreement is signed in person or by power of attorney. You can draw up the power of attorney yourself, but it must be notarised.
No security deposit is required for VAV rental homes.
