Resident activities are for everyone

Every tenant has the right to take part in residents’ activities. You and your neighbours can shape residents’ activities to reflect the character of your block and neighbourhood.

At the start of every year, a residents’ meeting is held in VAV houses. The meeting takes place by the end of March and gives every resident the opportunity to have a say in matters concerning their houses. The main purpose of the residents’ meeting is to elect a residents’ committee or a representative for the building.

All residents of the building are welcome to take part, regardless of age!

Residents’ Committee

decides on the use of the building’s budget
plans and organises communal events, such as voluntary work days
draws up the annual action plan for residents’ activities in the block
may participate in the preparation of proposals for the building’s budget and rent setting, and issue statements on them.

Frequently asked questions about resident activities

Resident activities are voluntary initiatives organised by residents themselves within their housess and neighbourhoods. The aim of resident activities is to improve the quality of life, foster a sense of community and influence matters relating to the house. VAV supports resident activities through a house-specific grant.

You can get involved by contacting your house’s residents’ committee or by attending the next residents’ meeting. Information on upcoming events, meetings and contact details can be found on your house’s noticeboard and via the OmaVAV service. You can take part in residents’ events organised by the residents’ committee even if you are not a member of the committee. Read more about OmaVAV.

By getting involved, you can help improve the quality of life in your neighbourhood, get to know your neighbours and play a part in house a sense of community within your block.

Yes, all residents can make suggestions regarding residents’ events and the building’s own residents’ activities. You can share your ideas and suggestions with the chair of the residents’ committee or a representative either in person or at a residents’ meeting.

The residents’ meeting elects the residents’ committee from among the building’s residents who are willing to stand. The property manager, in turn, reports on VAV news at the residents’ meeting. In addition, the meeting may discuss current issues, such as the building’s maintenance and communal events.
