Balconies with glass railings and walkways will be inspected towards the end of the year

The inspections will begin in November and be completed by Christmas. It is important that the inspectors are able to access all balconies.

We will be inspecting all the glass-railed balconies and walkways in our blocks from 9 November 2026. A notice detailing the inspection dates and further information will be distributed to residents approximately two weeks in advance. The inspections will be carried out by experts from Korjauspartnerit Oy.

Please ensure that the inspectors have access to your balcony. If you are not at home during the inspection, the inspectors will leave a note. We will inform you separately of any follow-up measures on a building-by-building and flat-by-flat basis.

Why are these inspections carried out?

In the summer, the authorities recommended that property owners ensure the safety of balcony railings made of glass or fibre-reinforced concrete. This recommendation was prompted by balcony accidents that have occurred in Finland.

Safety deficiencies have been identified, for example, on balconies where the lower part of the railing is made of glass or fibre-reinforced concrete. The accidents reported in the media did not occur in VAV buildings.

Nor do VAV’s buildings have fibre-reinforced concrete balconies of the type involved in the accident reported in the news this summer.

Report any damage to glass balustrades without delay

If you notice any damage to the glass at the bottom of your balcony railing, please submit a fault report for example via the OmaVAV service.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
