For four decades now, we have been a key player in the development of residential areas in the City of Vantaa and in the provision of affordable rental accommodation.
Our operations began in the mid-1980s, when the City of Vantaa’s rental housing stock was consolidated into a single company. This was done to enable the company to be developed and managed on a long-term basis. Initially, we took over the management of just over 40 properties, comprising around 2,200 flats.
We have grown tremendously over the past 40 years. Today, we manage nearly 12,000 homes, and almost one in ten residents of Vantaa lives in one of our properties.
From the very beginning, our mission has been to meet the city’s growing housing needs by providing affordable and diverse homes for the residents of Vantaa. Over the years, housing and housing construction have changed enormously, for example as a result of urbanisation and digitalisation.
“Close cooperation with the City of Vantaa and our stakeholders has enabled us to develop housing solutions in a consistent manner that genuinely meets the needs of the city’s residents,” says VAV’s Managing Director Mirka Saarholma.
The City of Vantaa aims to promote a good and high-quality life in Vantaa. We support the city’s strategy by designing sustainable and functional living environments and by providing homes that as many Vantaa residents as possible can afford.
We have a diverse housing stock, and the excellent locations of our residential buildings cater to people in different stages of life. Whether you live alone, with your family or are retired, you’ll find living here a breeze.
We are constantly developing our operations to be more resident-focused, and our commitment to customer service has been reflected in year-on-year improvements in resident satisfaction. This satisfaction is also reflected in long-term tenancies: on average, people live in VAV’s flats for eight to nine years, but there is also a large group of residents who have enjoyed living in our homes as tenants for decades.
Future trends in housing include changes in household size, the needs of an ageing population and the densification of urban structures. These developments also guide the planning of housing and services.
Changes are on the horizon for us in the near future. This spring, residents’ digital service portal, OmaVAV, will be completely updated. Our aim with this revamp has been to make using the service even clearer and smoother. Our key housing services, such as fault reports, maintenance requests and notices, will in future all be available in one place, in a mobile-friendly format.
Our website, vav.fi, will also be revamped this autumn. The revamp will enable it to better support our customers in their search for a home. The improved site will also make it easier for our existing residents to access the right information.
There are also developments on the housing front. Our refurbished residential building on Mäyräkuja in Korso will be completed this summer, and a new care home for the elderly will be built in Tikkurila in early 2027.
“We have several new-build projects under development across Vantaa. We aim to get a number of new projects off the ground this year as well. Our determined efforts to provide high-quality, affordable housing in Vantaa will continue apace in the coming years,” says Managing Director Mirka Saarholma.
