174 new rental homes in Vantaa – VAV’s new developments in Myyrmäki and Asola have been completed

Two new rental blocks developed by VAV have been completed in Vantaa, providing Vantaa residents with a total of 174 modern and affordable homes. These cosy residential blocks are situated in central locations in Myyrmäki and Asola.

VAV’s new residential blocks on Myyrmäentie and Lipstikkakuja meet the diverse housing needs of Vantaa’s residents. There is a high demand for affordable rental flats in Vantaa, and the new residential blocks received an exceptionally high number of applications. Nearly 800 applications were received for the Myyrmäki block and around 650 for the one in Asola. All the flats were let even before they were completed.

According to VAV’s Chief Executive Officer Mirka Saarholma the construction of new affordable rental homes is a key part of the company’s responsible role in safeguarding housing in Vantaa.

“Affordable rental homes are needed so that even those on low incomes can afford to build a good and sustainable everyday life in Vantaa – one in which housing does not take up too large a proportion of their disposable income,” she says.

Subsidised housing provision also combats segregation and strengthens social sustainability.

“It is vital for Vantaa’s vitality that workers in low-paid sectors can also afford to make our city their home,” Saarholma continues.

Modern living in prime locations

The 17-storey rental block completed on Myyrmäentie is VAV’s tallest and largest to date. The building stands out as a striking landmark in the Myyrmäki streetscape, and the balconies on its top floors offer views stretching up to 20 kilometres. Its location right in the centre of Myyrmäki puts public transport links and amenities within walking distance.

VAV’s fifth Swan-labelled rental block has been completed on Lipstikkakuja in Asola . The building exemplifies environmentally responsible construction and offers a pleasant living environment close to amenities and nature. A new Elmo Sports Park, complete with a swimming pool, is also being built nearby.

Both properties are in energy class A and offer a wide range of flats, from studio flats to larger flats. The floor plans are bright and practical, and the buildings also feature communal sauna facilities, laundry rooms and communal areas for socialising.

“Our aim is to build homes that support the needs of Vantaa residents at different stages of their lives,” says Saarholma.

The new developments form part of the City of Vantaa’s which stipulates that VAV must commission the construction of 350 state-subsidised and 50–100 privately financed homes each year. Forecasts indicate that the demand for housing in Vantaa will remain high in the coming years as well.

“Although the target is ambitious, it is necessary. We want to play our part in making Vantaa a vibrant, equal and sustainable city,” Saarholma sums up.
