Renovation of the building is in its final stages right in the heart of Korso

VAV’s refurbished affordable homes in Korso are due for completion in summer 2026. The building is in a superb location, close to amenities and good transport links.

The property at Mäyräkuja 4, which is due for refurbishment, forms part of Korso’s established housing stock, right next to the station. The sheltered courtyard is formed by a six-storey block of flats and its four-storey loft wing.

The building’s refurbishment, which has taken around a year, is nearing completion. The interior of the building was initially stripped back to its concrete structure.

“Work on the flats is currently underway, with some nearing completion. Applications for the flats have just begun, and residents will be able to move into their new homes at the end of June,” says VAV’s project manager Topi Huttunen.

The building’s cosy flats offer homes suited to different life situations, from single and two-person households to families. The building comprises 70 flats, ranging from studios to three-room flats.

The flats are modern and decorated in light colours. They feature refurbished kitchens with appliances, tiled bathrooms, new finishes and glazing for each balcony. As part of the same project, the lift and both communal saunas will be completely refurbished.

Making the old as good as new

The Mäyräkuja block was originally completed in 2005.

“Our flats are generally in good condition, but it’s important to look after them properly and invest in refurbishment,” says Huttunen.

Sustainable and responsible construction is a key part of VAV’s operations. As part of the Mäyräkuja refurbishment, solar panels will be installed on the roof to generate part of the property’s electricity. In addition to the extensive interior refurbishment, the property’s roof will also be replaced at the same time.

“Energy efficiency has also been taken into account in the project planning and implementation. The responsibility perspective is an integral part of all our project planning,” says Huttunen.
